Fire Beam

First of all I created a large document because  the more pixels the better in this case. I started by creating a document 2500 x 3500. I then filled the background with black.

Then I used the selection tool to create a rectangle on a new layer and used Gaussian blue to give it a glow effect.

The by using the smudge tool and a chalk brush, I smoothed out the edges to created a beam effect.

Then I duplicated the layer and used the same process but using a stronger brush. I then made the layer opaque, taking the opacity don to around 30%.

Next I made some light beam streams coming off the main beam. To do this I created a new layer and then used the elliptic selection tool to create a stretched oval.

I then used the, filter, shear tool to make the oval bend and stretch. After that I duplicated the layer and made the copied layer have a blur effect. Giving the light stream a glow. I then merged the layer.

After making more light streams by repeating the process I had this image.

I decided to make more light beams by duplicating and transforming the already existing ones.

I then decided to change the main light beam by stretching it because it did not like how it looked. i then stretched the light streams as well.

Then I made some bubbles coming off of the light streams. To do this I created a new brush and used the scattering option to get this effect. I also used a WACOM tablet so that I could use the shape dynamics tool as well. Then by duplicating the layer of the bubbles I used a blur effect to make them glow.

I then improved the light beam so it would stand out more and merged all of the layers.

Then by using the colour balance tool I created this fire effect.

Then by using the clone stamp tool and a splatter brush I made it look even more fire like by making splashes of fire around the light beam.

This is the final image.

This is an alternative fire beam using the same techniques and processes.

Using the same process I created these light beams in the images below.

Square Apple

For this image I was going to make a apple look like a cube. First of all I got an image of a green cube which i made transparent, and also I got an apple.

I then used the liquefy tool on the apple to try and fit the apple in the cube.

I then used the mask tool to crate the area in which the apple would not stretch out of.

This is the result of the liquefy.

I then used a basic soft, white brush to create the highlight effect. I then made this layer opaque to simulate the lighting effect. This technique gives the effect of shape and light.

I then rounded off the edges of the apple and created shadows. This makes it look more real.

This is where I cropped the apple core into the apple. I simply used the selection tool to select an are which i would then special paste the apple core into.

Then I used a charcole brush tool to blend the apple core in a bit more. Then I used the clone stamp tool to fill in the top part of the core so that it would make the apple look more real.

Demo Work

In this image I am going to create a leopard skin texture on this rhino's skin. First of all i got an image of a rhino and a peopard.

I then rotated and scaled the image so that the leopard had a basic fit to the rhino.

Then using the liquefy tool to push the leopard image into place so that it covered the rhino. I then patched up all of the blotches with the clone stamp tool.

I then created a layer mask and used that to make the layers blend in.

Then by selecting the correct layer blending option, the layers blended together. And this is the result.

To create an under water scene I first needed to use hue and saturation on this garden image. The reason i chose this image was because of its gravely sandy base. It kind of looks like a sea floor. So by using hue and saturation I was able to make it look like underwater rocks.

Then I was able to create a gradient of blue so it looked like the deep blue see.

To create the sun shafts I used the polygonal selection tool to select a triangle shape, then filled it with white and used the feather selection mode to make the triangle look softer. I then used the skew tool to angle the shafts properly, and then made the layer opaque so that it would look real. I got an image of the shark off the internet and used a layer mask to select the area I wanted and then used a blending mode to make it blend in with the sun shafts. The ripples at the top i created by using the opposite gradient of the ocean. And then by using a layer mask made it blend in with the ocean and made it look like it was fading away. I then used the ripple filter to make it look like the surface. I then used a old plane and blended it in with the background by making it very opaque. I then used the healing brush tool to get rid of the wire that was attached to it. This makes it look like it was sat on the bottom of the ocean floor.

3D

In this demo I created some 3D images.

I thought about getting an image that had movement and action in it. If you ever watch a 3d film, the most memorable bits are the scenes where stuff jumps out at you. Therefore i thought the best type of 3D image that you could make would be one with action and movement. I remember seeing this programme on T.V about how sharks attack their prey and I thought it would be really cool to see that in 3D so after searching i found this on the internet.

To create the 3D image you first need to duplicate the layer and turn one layer cyan and the other red. You do this using the levels tool. Then you simply move one of the layers slightly to the right or left and then all you need are some 3D glasses.

Here is a screen shot of changing each of the levels. You need to change them individually and not RGB.

Here is another example of a 3D image I created.

Here is the same image but with but with a radial blur filter added to give the image more depth and action.

This is the 3D shark image I created.

Contest Entry

The brief for this image was called "Flatten". I used the image gave to me and decided to blend it into a pancake. Using a mask tool and colour correction i blended the picture into the pancake. I then used a screen blending option to blend it in further. I would have wanted to put it into a frying pan but i could not find a picture that would work with it. I found the Panckae image off of Google but cut it out of a separate image.

The theme of this image was sparkle. The original image was a diamond, so i thought it would be a good idea to fit them into someones eyes. But it didn't want to just put it in any body's random eyes because i had already seen that on the website entry's. So i thought why not put them in something a lot cooler than a humans eye, which brought me to Prime. By using hue and saturation i changed the colour of optimus. Then using some brushes that i got off the internet, i created a fire background. then i duplicated the diamonds and flipped one and erased the appropriate parts so that the eyes would fit. I then put a smokaey effect on the eyes as well as turning up the brightness to make them sparkle and stand out.

This is the entry.

This image was of a swan in a lake. (original image below). To create this image i used a simple glow effect style to aluminate the swan. First of all on a new layer i created 4 white rectangles and placed them behind the swan. I then dublicated them and used guassian blur to make them glow. After that i smuged teh end of them to make them look like beams. I then merged and duplicated them and made this new layer opaque and repeated the process of smudging. I then created a new brush that had shape dynamics and scatter. This game the beams a bubbly water effect. Then using colour blend I adjuted the brightness and glow of the light beams. I then merged all the light beams and but a filter over the swan so that it would fit in the theme of the entire image.

The original image of the swan.

This is the  next contest that i entered. And this is the image that the website gave.

To create this image I first got images of an, x wing, a Jedi robe, a lightsaber and a desert landscape. First of all I created layer masks on the images so that i could use the parts i wanted, for example getting rid of the white. To get the robe right I used the liquidize tool to shape it correctly. The lightsaber was easy, I just got the base image and then used the selection tool to select a rectangle. I then used Gaussian blur to give it  glowing effect. Then I added the background which was the desert and created the sunset myself by using a brush tool, then i used colour correction to blend it in with the desert. Then by using a layer mask i used the gradient tool to blend them together. Then i duplicated the x wing's and filled them black. I then merged and gave them a motion blur effect. I then duplicated and scaled, then Gaussian blur to give the shadow effect on the floor. Then I turned down the opacity.

The inspiration behind this idea was to use the squirrel as imaginatively as possible. The squirrel was holding on to some kind of metal pole and i thought of maybe putting something in the squirrels hands, maybe having loads of squirrels and making an army. I thought it might be quite comical to put two army's and having them fight over one nut. But this proved to difficult to do at my level of skill. So i diced to think more sci-fi. This brought me to the idea of star wars. Then i thought to take the squirrel completely out of its comfort zone to make the image seem more striking. Then i started to develop this idea.
